Monthly totals; October 2013

Swim: 2:00 | 4900m
Bike: 7:35:28 | 181.9km
Run: 7:19:27 | 64.54km
Bike Trainer: 1:55
Massage: 3:00
Walking: 1:10
Yoga: 10:00

Weight: 60.3 kg. -1kg.  Significantly fewer hours than last month and still down a kilo. I'm not complaining. I ran the Melbourne Half Marathon that I wasn't well prepared for, thought I'd done myself an ITB injury. Thankfully a week of not running saw it relatively unscathed and back to training. Next on the agenda an 85km ride along with the continued triathlon training. Bring on the warmer weather please!

Monthly totals; September 2013

Swim: 3:03:59 | 7400 m
Bike: 4:24:04 | 113.5km
Run: 12:05:22 | 114.3 km
Strength: 35m
Massage: 2:45:00
Stretching: 40m
Walking: 3:27:00
Yoga: 12:00:00

Weight:  61.4kg down -1kg. I put on 2kgs in Bali while there in August (it was freakin' awesome). I figured it would come off easily enough upon getting home. But then it didn't and intervention was required. Using Fitday I'm back on track and I don't feel obsessive about it, which is the most important thing. For me it's about planning and being organised so I that I have healthy snacks on hand and reasonable meals for work, not letting myself get so tired and hangry (hungry/angry) that I just eat anything and more importantly everything!

Monthly totals: June 2012

Bike: 9:05 | 128.5 km
Run: 3:25:02 | 32.82 km
Swim: 8m | 400m
Strength: 7:50
Bike trainer: 50m
Mountain bike: 57:12 (I've started logging my mtb adventures with bike)
Rock climbing: 30m
Stretching: 45m
Walking: 1:10

Weight: +0.3kg. 62kg. Still with Fitday. Still eating too much, but again fewer binge eating episodes. I'm happy with that. Really my intake needs to be as close to 1500 cals as I can. I find posting my daily eats helps with that and gives me ideas of tasty things to eat!

I saw a personal trainer three times this month to work on my form in the gym. It certainly helped cement the fact that I need to work on glute strength.

I set myself a challenge of doing 75 minutes worth of planks in June and I did it. I'm thinking of upping it to 80 mins for July.

I'm reasonably happy where my exercise is sitting considering my schedule has been all over the shop. It repeats again in July but with added night shift, my first time doing night shift at that. The key for me will to make sure I'm getting enough sleep and I'll go from there!

Monthly totals: May 2012

Bike: 3:35:08 | 82.25 km
Run: 3:12 | 32.18 km
Swim: 1:01:30 | 3000m
Agility: 25m
Strength: 9:55
Bike trainer: 4:27
Boxing: 30m
Weight: -0.3kg. 61.7kg. I've been tracking my intake on Fitday again. It helps me to be accountable. To question whether I am really hungry. Some days are good, some days are not. I log and I move on. I'm doing my best not to induce guilt. The episodes of binging are decreasing. That's a win.

So the more observant may have noticed that I considerably upped my strength work in May. Since I started the new job I've had access to an amazing (new and free) gym that I've not really used. For the most ridiculous reason; fear. Of what people will think, of not knowing what to do, of looking like a fool doing so. Lamest excuses ever! I so thought I was over that and old enough to know better. Apparently not.

I took aside one of my workmates one day and asked her to run through the equipment with me. She was so very happy to do so. As a result of her patience and my incessant you-tubing of how to perform certain exercises I can happily report I'm a semi-regular gym user!

People still pick me up on my form and I'm totally ok with that. I've booked a Personal Trainer session during my upcoming leave where I hope to learn even better form.

Monthly totals: April 2012

Bike: 5:35:52 | 126.84 km
Run: 7:06:21 | 65.6km
Swim: 29m | 1400m
Agility: 48m
Strength: 1:55
Bike trainer: 2:53:30
Horseriding: 3:00
Mountain bike: 4:40
Walking: 1:23

Weight: Same. 62kg. Stayed the same and I can pretty much repeat last months update of: I struggled with my eating this month. I don't eat a lot during the day due to the discomfort it causes, I then find myself lacking energy to workout after work/class and I go home and eat far too much. Where far too much has resulted in binging.

Access to the free pool saw my swim load diminished, but I'd say April has seen my highest riding and running totals for the year. Happy times! As it gets cooler I foresee even more strength and bike trainer.

Monthly totals: March 2012

It was good to get back on the bike and maintain the swimming, now I just have to pick up the running!

Bike: 1:49:57 | 48.69km
Run: 4:00:15 | 38.82
Swim: 3:01:07 | 8200m
Strength: 1:22
Bike trainer: 1:10
Fitness test: 15m
Massage: 1:15
Race Volunteering: 12:30
Tennis: 40m

Weight: +1kg. 62kg. I struggled with my eating this month. I don't eat a lot during the day due to the discomfort it causes, I then find myself lacking energy to workout after work/class and I go home and eat far too much.

While I found cutting sugar out did help some of my bloating issues it certainly didn't entirely rid me of the problem and I'm finding it difficult to pinpoint what is actually causing the bloating. One day I'll eat something and I'll be fine, the next day exactly the same thing and I'll be in all sorts of discomfort. A trip to the doc is in order. Something needs to change.

Monthly totals: February 2012

February was certainly a better effort than January. March should be even better. The amount of study required is easing. I've got a week off next week and hope to get some running and riding done between the forecast showers.

Bike: 45:36 | 19km
Run: 5:14:29 | 52.93km
Swim: 2:32:40 | 6750m
Bike Trainer: 1:37
Boxing: 40m
Fitness testing: 15m
Strength: 1:20
Stretching: 45m
Rock climbing: 1hr

Weight: -0.5kg. 61kg. While I did use Fitday, I didn't use it every. single. day. Having a consistent food diary may help with bloating issues I'm still having, so I'm going to attempt to keep the logging up. I'm still keen to lose a couple of kilos too.

Monthly totals: January 2012

I swear I just did December's monthly totals. Where did January go??
I can tell you it wasn't exactly spent getting active, it really was a lacklustre affair. On a positive note my academic average isn't suffering, just my stress levels.

Run: 2:57:57 | 29.7km
Swim: 2:01:27 | 5500m
Bike Trainer: 1:55
Boxing: 25m
Strength: 1:10
Stretching: 20m
Race Volunteering: 5:30

Weight: Hovering around the 61.5kg mark and exceptionally bloated - which is a good indication that I'm eating too much. Not only does Feb see me tackle a month of discarding/donating one item per day (one of my goals for 2012), but I see a February full of Fitday ahead.

Weight: Got down to 60kg, but hovered around the 61.5kg mark after the inevitable Christmas/NY eat-fest!

Monthly totals: November 2011

Ride: 3:21:48 | 67.14 km
Run: 6:40:12 | 63.01 km
Swim: 15m | 600m
Walking: 12:50
Kickboxing: 3:00
Strength: 1:30
Adventure racing: 4:29:32
Dancing: 2:00

Weight: -1kg, down to 61kg (134lbs). I thought I'd done slightly better, that said, I'm down a total of 2.5kgs since mid October. I'm not complaining!

Disappointing bike effort, but my run total doubled from last month. I definitely spent more time moving in November, compared to October. So I'm happy.

November was all about the Adventure race! And making a slow comeback with regards to my ITB injury sustained in September. I feel as though I'm making ok progress on that front.

Monthly totals: October 2011

Ride: 9:17:00 | 196.4km
Run: 3:18:58 | 33.9km
Swim: 1:15 | 3400m
Walking: 3:40
Kickboxing: 1:30
Strength: 10m

I spent the start of October primarily focused on the beep test. I was nervous prior, but on testing day I felt strong and that I could have advanced past 6.10.

I also got my bike on! Making the commitment to commute a few days a week and adding cycling back into my weekend saw my totals soar. It's not huge volumes by any means, but its a start to being bike fit again.

With regards to running, well I had a couple of weeks break and am slowly slowly making a comeback. My sights are on a 10km in early December.

Saturday, October 1, 2011

Monthly totals: September 2011

Run: 6:48:59 | 63.13km
Swim: 2:07:30 | 5900m
Strength: 1:30
Kickboxing: 2:45
Walking: 8:10

It wasn't quite the September I was supposed to have. ITB Syndrome derailed my marathon plans, and midway through the month I essentially had to stop running and start hip strengthening. As a result my kickboxing hours were diminished too.

That said I swam more this month than I did in the whole of 2010! I've enjoyed the swimming more than I'd expected and puts me in a good position if I'm to sign up for a triathlon or two this summer.

The first half of October is all about the beep test. On October 16 I have to reach level 6.10. I'm hoping that I can actually get higher than that in training. I'll also be looking at slowly slowly building up my running again. And get back on the bike. No cycling in September?? Eep!

Saturday, September 3, 2011

Monthly totals: August 2011

Bike: 3:10 | 66.44km
Run: 20:59:09 | 195.41km
Hiking: 2:50
Kayaking: 3hr
Kickboxing: 5:30

Massage: 1:45
Walking: 1:20

Mid August saw me go back to work, albeit four days a week. I'm managing to get my long run in on my day off, but getting the other runs in during the week is proving challenging. I think my focus has to be on running foremost, then kickboxing. I think I'll need to revisit kayaking after the marathon.

Monday, August 1, 2011

Monthly totals: July 2011

Bike: 42:22 | 17.52 km
Run: 15:55:32 | 147.29km
Strength: 37m
Kayaking: 1hr
Kickboxing: 45m
Martial Arts: 1hr
Bike trainer: 2:21
Race Volunteering: 5:30
Walking: 4:20

Probably the biggest variety of activities I've done in a while. Strength suffered, I found it incredibly difficult to motivate myself to get it done. The aim for August is to focus on the first five on the list and get each of their times up.

Friday, July 1, 2011

Monthly totals: June 2011

Bike: 5:30:17 | 126.2km
Run: 20:08:29 | 191.59km
Strength: 2:30
Bike trainer: 25m
Stretching: 10m

June was all about the run! I'm off to the Gold Coast today for Sunday's marathon. Then some r&r in Byron Bay. I'll be back in a week's time to share the details and get into some cycling to coincide with the Tour de France.

Wednesday, June 1, 2011

Monthly totals: May 2011

Back into the monthly totals. It's been a while, March and April were missing in action due to gallivanting overseas.

Cycling: 1h 25m | 24km
Running: 20h 18m 56s | 189.44km
Strength: 1h 16m
Walking: 2h 50m
Yoga: 6h

Comments: Big running month, building for the Gold Coast marathon. Feeling much better about the event and even on track to run a pb!

I did almost as much strength this month as I did for all of 2010. My goal for the month of June is to double May's efforts.

Tuesday, March 1, 2011

Monthly totals: February 2011

Cycling: 58m 50s | 26 km
Running: 6h 56m 19s | 65.17 km
Strength: 10m

Comments: I seriously considered not posting these. Because let's face it, February hasn't been my finest month in recent times. I totally lost my mojo. At least it came back for the last two weeks. On a positive note, there's plenty of room for improvement.

Wednesday, February 2, 2011

Monthly totals: January 2011

Cycling: 10h 40m | 212 km
Running: 8h 14m 17s | 77 KM
Swim: 36m | 1500m
Walking: 1h 45m
Horse riding: 1h
Massage: 1h
Strength: 10m

Comments: An improvement from December's efforts, to be expected really. Still not running quite enough. You'll see just a hint of strength making it's way in. To be honest I don't love strength, but it's something that needs to be added to my weekly routine.

Saturday, January 1, 2011

Monthly totals: December 2010

Cycling: 1h 56m | 44.5 km
Running: 7h 19m 24s | 70.12 KM
Walking: 4h

Comments: The lack of cycling was disappointing, but when I think back, we had a lot of rain that was a touch prohibitive. Relatively consistent with the running. I consider anything in silly season a bonus.

While I'm at it HAPPY NEW YEAR and here's the yearly recap.

Cycling: 127h 46m 41s | 2718.02 km (+ 696.06km from '09)

Wednesday, December 1, 2010

Monthly totals: November 2010

Not quite a productive month as October.
The major positive was that I got in the pool again.

Bike: 11h 17m 42s | 196.8 km
Run: 7h 06m 21s | 65.64 km
Swim: 1h 05m | 2800 m
Bike Trainer: 1h 15m
Walking: 55m
